Load the model
Open Mesh Tools and drop in a GLB, GLTF, OBJ, STL or FBX file. The panel shows vertices, faces and object counts straight away, so you can note your starting point and compare after each step.
Simplify in small steps
The simplification panel has a reduction ratio and three modes: conservative, balanced and aggressive. Begin with conservative at 50 percent, orbit the model, and only then go further. Smaller steps let you stop right when the silhouette starts to change.
- Keep Preserve Boundaries on for open edges such as the rim of a cup or a cloth hem.
- Use Close Holes when small gaps appear after generation.
- Try Edge Flipping when thin triangles appear on curved surfaces.
Apply, check the face count, and use Reset if you want to try another mode from the original.
Match the budget to the destination
A hero prop in a desktop scene can keep far more triangles than a background crate. Decide the budget first, simplify toward it, and compare screenshots at the distance your player will actually see the object. For printing, keep higher detail and read the print ready meshes guide.
Paint the texture
Switch on Texture Painting to touch up the result. Brush, fill, gradient, smudge and clone modes are available, with size, opacity and hardness controls. Pick a target map for color, roughness, metalness, normal or emissive. Bake AO and bake curvature add depth that helps simple materials look rich.
Good habits: paint on a duplicate target map, use a soft brush for blending and a hard brush for crisp marks, and save often. Undo and redo are always at hand.
Export
Choose Export GLB and test the file in your engine. If you want to see it in a page first, a quick embed in WebFiddle lets you share a live preview with teammates.
Work with the viewer
Left drag rotates, right drag pans and the scroll wheel zooms. Spend a minute orbiting at low and high angles after every operation. Problems that hide from the front often show up from below or behind, and catching them early saves a rerun later.
Record the face count before and after each pass in a small note. When a teammate asks which version is the web build, you will have the numbers ready, and you can repeat the same settings on the next model in a set so a whole library looks consistent.
Routine summary
- Load and note the face count.
- Simplify conservatively, then step up.
- Check boundaries and silhouette.
- Paint and bake details.
- Export the GLB and test it where it will live.
Open Mesh Tools
Simplify, paint and export your model in the browser.
